Toolbox Treat Holder for Father's Day w/ Gift Card Holder

Gift Card Slides Behind Greeting Strip

Last year for Father's Day I made a toolbox gift card. (See that post here.)  I recently saw a "card in a box" made like a toolbox, but the lid remained open. That gave me the idea to make this toolbox with a functional lid! The toolbox closed measures 4 inches wide, 2-1/2 inches deep, and 2-1/2 inches high.  It is deep enough to add some treats or a small gift, and the lid holds a gift card! The lid closes with a magnet and the drawers are for looks only.

As you can see in the photo above, I found some cute little tool erasers at Dollar Tree that I added inside my box, after adding some black crinkle paper. If you have a tool die set,  you could make some little tools.

Materials Needed:

• Heavweight red cardstock measuring 9 x 10-1/2 inches (I used Stampin' Up)
• One-quarter inch flat magnets (one set)
• 3 pieces of red cardstock cut 3/4" x 4"
• 3 pieces of black cardstock cut 1/4" x 4"
• 3 pieces of silver/gray cardstock cut 1/8" x 4"
• 3 strips of 1/4" foam tape cut to 4 inches
• 1 strip of white cardstock cut 3/4" x 4" (or you could use red cardstock)
• 1 scrap of white cardstock for the "Happy" or other greeting
• Glue dots
• Black crinkle paper for inside box
• Strong adhesive (tear tape, red line tape, or glue)

Directions (with photos):

Fold and crease on score lines, cut up to vertical score line on each side.

Attach glue dots to very edge of each side of 4" strip, leaving top/bottom open to slide in gift card.
Add additional stamped greeting, if desired, above gift card strip. Glue this piece down. It will only be seen when gift card is removed. 

 

Attach magnet to outside flap of toolbox and the other magnet onto the front of the toolbox in the same position.

And it's done! It may seem like a lot of steps, but ir really does go together fairly quickly. In fact, if you want to make more than one, it's easy to just cut all your pieces at once and assemble. I hope you enjoy this project. It can be made in any color toolbox your guy may have.
